Travel A Division
Our Travel A Division is for more experienced players looking to play competive hockey at either the A or AA levels. In this program, players are selected through a tryout process by the Head Coach and cuts are made. Our goal is to make as highly competive teams as possible.

When
Our Travel A program officially runs from the beginning of September through the end of February. However, team activities such as dryland training, get togethers, extra practices, etc can begin as early as July/August and teams may participate in tournaments through the month of March.
Where
The Dayton Hockey Association uses both the Kettering Ice Arena and NTPRD Chiller in Springfield for practices and games.
Practices
Teams will practice two times a week, typically starting in early September. Our High School teams practice exclusively out of Springfield, with occasional exceptions. Typically, the younger age groups will have one practice in Kettering and one in Springfield per week.
Games
Teams in our Travel A Division typically play between 40-50 games a season and participate in 3-5 out of town tournaments through the year.
Jerseys
Stitched home and away jerseys are provided as part of the fees for your team. If you are offered a spot on an A team, you will be asked to give sizing info to complete your registration and put your initial deposit down to secure your spot.
Team Fees
Standard fees for the 2024-2025 season are as follows:
10U - $1600
12U - $1750
14U - $1900
HS - $2300 - $3000
Leagues
- Most of our 10U-14U A teams participate in the Metro Columbus Hockey League. Some are placed in the Buckeye Travel Hockey League. However, if talent and interest exists, we have placed teams in the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League before as well as allow teams to run Independently without playing in a formal league.
- Our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams participate in the Ohio Scholastic Hockey League.
- Next season we hope to field a second tiered Junior Varsity team. This team would participate in the Cincinnati High School Hockey League.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do tryouts work?
The tryout fee is $50. Players will check in when they first get to the rink. They will be assigned a colored pinnie as well as a player ID number. The ID number is what we will post online for the callback session. This will be posted within an hour after the initial tryout concludes. Teams are picked after the callback session.
How are teams picked?
A1 team invites will go out within an hour after the callback session concludes. A2 team invites will go out after all A1 spots are accepted. Varsity and JV invites have a similar process. Families will have 24 hours to accept their invites before the offer expires.
How do I know what tryout group to attend?
Tryout groups are randomly selected. This will be communicated to the email adress used to register for tryouts at last a week ahead of time. If you are a later signup, this will be communicated 1-2 days prior.
What if I have a schedule conflict?
If you have any schedule conflicts with either tryout group or the callback session, we can make arrangements to still have your player evaluated.
What if my child plays both skater and goalie?
If you're interested in trying out as both a skater and goalie, we will make arrangements for you to do so.
How do skate ups work?
If you're interested in trying out to skate up (ie: 2nd year 10U, skating up for the 12U tryout), your child must demonstrate their skill level is in the top half of kids already at that age level. We do not allow skate ups at 14U due to the introduction of body checking. All eligible High School Freshmen that are still technically 2nd year Bantams are typically allowed to tryout for High School as well.
How do invites work for 14U players that are also High School eligible?
14U invites will go out first, on schedule, within an hour after the callback session concludes. If your child receives a high school invite as well later that day, your 24 hours will begin from the time the high school invite is sent out.
What if my child is not picked for an A team?
We will invite you to register for our Travel B Division where they will be guaranteed to be placed on a team.
If we accept our roster spot, how do payments work?
After you put your initial deposit down, there will be five reoccuring payments beginning June 1st.
